My most influential teacher was Terry Whaley during my Sophomore year of high school. Me Whaley was a recent college graduate who loved history and social studies, but he was my English teacher that year. Up to that point, I had received mostly B’s in English, but that year my average was almost 100% because Mr Whaley made us memorize certain parts of speech, pronouns for number and case, and encouraged us to write expressively through a journal entry assignment. I actually earned an award that year for the highest English grade in our high school. I had several other great teachers in college and graduate school who opened my eyes to new things, but I would never have been able to write an essay or research paper successfully had it not been for Terry Whaley.
What Say Ye? Who’s your favorite teacher and why?
