In the beginning is the beginning of time, and for time to exist, material must exist, for time can only exists where there is material. This is clearly the beginning of both time and material which means that before, did not exist. There was no material and therefore, no time.
Bara, created. The universe was created. It did not create itself. Now, a great deal of Creation was created by the universe, and things within it as you read further in the story, but even that Creation was ordered by the Creator, and it met the requirements he desired, or it would have been eliminated, and replaced.
Elohim. Elohim is the name of the Creator in Creation story 1. Hashem Elohim is the name of the Creator in Creation story 2. Elohim is a judge. That is why he always judges Creation at the end of each day. He is all powerful, and creates using his power. He also creates in linear time because this would make the most sense to us as we also exist in linear time.
Et. If we look at the word et, which is not translated, we could assume that it has no meaning to the story, and merely points to the direct object of what is being created, but let’s assume that there is more to it than that. Let’s look at how it is spelled. Et is spelled aleph tov. Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alephbeit, or alphabet using the Greek. Tov is the last letter of the alephbeit. So we could read Beresheit bara Elohim et as in the beginning, Elohim create the aleph through the tov, or the Hebrew alephbeit. He created the Hebrew language and then spoke Creation into existence using the letters of the alephbeit. This is a familiar concept found in the phrase abracadabra. Abara cadabara translates to I will create while I speak.
This is not the only concept that we can derive from the et. If we again switch to Greek, the aleph and tov becomes the alpha, and the omega. For Christians, this is a much more familiar concept. This gives us in the beginning, Elohim create the beginning and the end. So not only did Elohim create time, but he created all time, beginning and end. This is how He knows everything that will happen. He is outside of time and space, and already knows how all of this turns out.
Surely a book that holds this much mystery in just the first 4 words has to be from G0d. He provides us just enough information to figure out what is there, and that often leads to a whole new set of questions needing answers. If you need any proof that there G0d exists, study the Hebrew language.
