]]>Rachelle Walensky: “CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says the change was also motivated by economic and societal concerns. “With a really large anticipated number of cases [from omicron], we also want to make sure we can keep the critical functions of society open and operating,” she told NPR Tuesday. “We can’t take science in a vacuum. We have to put science in the context of how it can be implemented in a functional society.” Where was this logic during 2019 amid business shutdowns and closings?
“The CDC’s guidance updates come at the end of a long first month with the omicron variant. State and industry leaders have pushed for a reduced isolation period, blaming the lengthy at-home stay for worker shortages that have led to thousands of cancelled flights, postponed sports games and events and restaurant closures.
The change in guidance to the public expands on reduced isolation and quarantine periods for health care workers, introduced last week. Where there are staffing shortages, the CDC recommends infected workers isolate for five days before returning. In crisis times, they say – workers should go to work even if they’re sick with COVID-19.

PS: Omicron may be a Godsend in that eveyone is going to get covid, but few, if any, will have life-threatening symptoms. Maybe we will actually reach herd immunity soon???

]]>Nothing says I love freedom more than forcing someone to display their patriotism. Many have forgotten what freedom is in this country. Many think that sure you should be free, but as soon as you bring up something they personally oppose; they want a law. Our National Anthem is a prime example. I personally love our anthem, but I love what it represents far more than the anthem itself. Freedom is the liberty to do things that others may or may not like. Force is the opposite of freedom.
Of course, those opposite of the Nationalist Right have their own pet issues–the most recent is forced vaccination. I’m sure that those on the Illiberal Left will come up with all their reasons why forcing people to be vaccinated is actually freedom, but they are just as wrong as are those who want to force patriotism.
Persuasion is the answer. If I believe something strongly, I should attempt to convince you, but I should not try to get a law passed to make you adhere.
Roger Williams once wrote: “Forced worship stinks in the nostrils of God.” I can’t help but believe he would feel the same way about forced patriotism or forced medical treatments.
