(And no, even thought I grew up in the corrupt state of Illinois, I was not one of many who voted while dead or before I registered legally.).

I was always very interested in history, politics, government, demographics, economics… you get the idea—even in high school. My political instinct has always leaned very libertarian. Even though I personally have a strong desire to see fairness, equality, charity… implemented in our society; I’ve never viewed the government as the best mechanism to accomplish those goals. I really have never seen a better idea for government than maximum individual freedom with minimum government regulation.

Don’t misunderstand. I believe crime should be punished. Murder, assault, robbery, rape, kidnapping—crimes that have an actual victim should be punished, and we need systems in place for justice, law enforcement, and penalties. Where we go wrong is creating crimes where no harm is done to another human being.

Now here’s my point: there used to be a time when true conservatives and libertarians agreed on many issues—simply because that which was being conserved was the Constitution and it’s Bill of Rights. That is simply no longer the case. The most recent “conservative” President actually increased the debt and federal spending, increased gun regulations, and routinely called for for actions that violated the Fourth, Sixth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments.

Republicans now have a chance to choose someone who at least talks the talk of Constitutional Conservatism. The question that remains is, will they?

What thoughts do you have?

I oppose nation-building, meddling, killing civilians, and any other military intervention that is not clearly in our national interest. I support the Constitution’s separation of powers on war—only Congress can declare war while the President commands the armed forces.

What Say Ye?

Too much Executive Power https://curtandtheotherguy.com/too-much-executive-power/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=too-much-executive-power https://curtandtheotherguy.com/too-much-executive-power/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 12:44:15 +0000 https://curtandtheotherguy.com/?p=377 Continue reading Too much Executive Power]]> This is not a pro-vaccine nor an anti-vaccine post. You should get vaccinated if you want to do so. Owners of private properties and businesses should be able to admit whom they will and serve whom they will. The problem is with the Executive Edict that will be implemented through OSHA. You see this is one of the biggest problems with OUR government: Congress or the President delegate their authority to bureaucracies, who in turn make the actual rules. That’s why our legislative bills are THOUSANDS of pages long, and no one knows what is in them. This is why we have such division in our nation. You see, we can’t un-elect OSHA or EPA, or IRS or CIA or FBI agents. Congress passes the laws, the President signs them, and the bureaucrats enforce them. (On a side note, because many of our laws are so poorly written, the Supreme Court effectively decides the actual law.). This “passing the buck” gives the elected officials cover. Of course, both the Congress and the President could work together to eliminate this huge bureaucracy, but without pressure from US, they won’t. That’s been proven. What do we do? We bring it up to our officials every chance we get. We demand accountability. Until enough of US do this, things will not change, no matter whom we elect as President.

Pooh’s right on this one. Wilson started the massive bureaucratic state.
