Our Collective Response to Covid was Worse Than the Illness Itself. https://curtandtheotherguy.com/our-collective-response-to-covid-was-worse-than-the-illness-itself/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=our-collective-response-to-covid-was-worse-than-the-illness-itself https://curtandtheotherguy.com/our-collective-response-to-covid-was-worse-than-the-illness-itself/#respond Thu, 30 Mar 2023 11:58:27 +0000 https://curtandtheotherguy.com/our-collective-response-to-covid-was-worse-than-the-illness-itself/ Continue reading Our Collective Response to Covid was Worse Than the Illness Itself.]]> Covid-19 is a real and serious illness that has taken the lives of over 1 Million Americans and almost 7 Million people worldwide. It is quite literally one of the most serious health threats we have faced in the last three years, but our collective response to it has had far more negative consequences than the illness itself.

First, our economic health has been severely weakened. Our nation was already a teetering ship economically prior to the forced lockdowns and shutdown of the world economy, but thanks to the governmental response and our collective acceptance of it, our national debt increased nearly 9 Trillion Dollars—5 Trillion of that was from 2020 alone. Our supply chain was severely disrupted, and the economic pump still needs some priming in order to get it flowing again.

Secondly our children’s academic health has suffered. Face masks inhibit communication. Young children learning to speak and read missed valuable opportunities to learn proper articulation, pronunciation, and facial and emotional discernment because of the masks. Children literally missed several months to a year or more in their academic progress. This loss will be nearly impossible to overcome and will cause less productivity and innovation in our nation’s future.

Thirdly, our mental health suffered. Isolation, lack of human contact and touch, less social interaction— these lead to depression, anxiety, loneliness, and other maladies of the mind. Humans are social creatures in need of contact. We became a nation of scaredy cats (or were revealed as one). The forced lockdowns did severe, and possibly, irreparable harm to our collective mental health.

What about our spiritual health? Churches were shut down-even when they made very reasonable accommodations to the pandemic—like meeting outside or in cars in a parking lot. The government overreach was despicable!

Finally, our physical health suffered. Children missed already scheduled vaccinations because of closed medical offices, adults missed diagnostic tests, screenings, and regular checkups that could have prevented cancer, heart problems, stroke, diabetes…. Was the health trade worth it? I say no. Should we have implemented common sense practices to actually slow the spread? Absolutely! Wash your hands, stay home when feverish or likely contagious, sleep, exercise, take supplements, eat right—sure. But stay home, wear a mask, don’t touch, don’t visit grandma or friends—absolutely not!

I’m sure I missed some things as I am musing and rambling, but I need to express myself.

Have a great day, and stay healthy!

Now this is just my opinion, and I have not changed on the idea of government force. I oppose government mandates. (I also oppose private sector mandates, but just because I don’t like them. One can change jobs if one so chooses, but it’s very difficult to leave one’s own country.) I am most vehemently opposed to federal mandates, then state mandates, then local mandates, and finally private mandates. Back to the subject at hand: if you are older, have pre-existing conditions, or live a life where you are regularly exposed to others; I think getting vaccinated is a good idea. Let me reiterate though: good ideas don’t require force.

I’ve watched people get sick from this illness and die or have long-term symptoms. I decided to get vaccinated after several months of musing. I have tested positive once, and probably had covid back in March of 2020. At that time, there were no tests to be found. The reason I decided to get vaccinated was that I would have been very angry with myself if I got covid again, (which we all know we can–vaccinated or not) and had to miss work. I did not, and do not, want to miss work over covid or end up in a hospital.

What about the seeming ineffectiveness of the vaccines? Well, they definitely do not prevent the contracting of covid, but they do seem to lessen the symptoms if one contracts it again. What about the inconsistencies and silliness that surrounds this illness? Where do I start? We have been lied to; treated like children, and the “powers that be” have attempted brainwashing. They have succeeded on many Americans. We are the only nation I know that does not even consider natural immunity in the equation. We have high school athletes in Illinois wearing masks down around their chins because their dictatorial governor insists on a mask mandate in Illinois public schools. If you don’t believe me, just look up Illinois high school basketball news and see for yourself. It is obvious to me that Pfizer and Moderna have benefited greatly from this pandemic, but this only serves to illustrate the already established fact that America is a corporatist state, bordering on a form of fascism. The government, corporations, and even unions are now in the metaphorical bed together–leaving the average American with nowhere to turn. (I guess Johnson and Johnson is somehow persona non grata. You know 28 people with blood clots out of the 8.7 million who have taken the vaccination–I mean it’s less of a risk than just being alive, but we must destroy them for some reason.) Just to illustrate the silliness of the J&J attacks, (and I am not an apologist for J&J) between 100,000- 300,00 people die from blood clots every year. So, pray tell me, why is the J&J vaccination dangerous?

The J&J smearing just illustrates another yuge problem in America today: there ain’t no such a thing as a free press–at least in the major media.

Too much Executive Power https://curtandtheotherguy.com/too-much-executive-power/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=too-much-executive-power https://curtandtheotherguy.com/too-much-executive-power/#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2021 12:44:15 +0000 https://curtandtheotherguy.com/?p=377 Continue reading Too much Executive Power]]> This is not a pro-vaccine nor an anti-vaccine post. You should get vaccinated if you want to do so. Owners of private properties and businesses should be able to admit whom they will and serve whom they will. The problem is with the Executive Edict that will be implemented through OSHA. You see this is one of the biggest problems with OUR government: Congress or the President delegate their authority to bureaucracies, who in turn make the actual rules. That’s why our legislative bills are THOUSANDS of pages long, and no one knows what is in them. This is why we have such division in our nation. You see, we can’t un-elect OSHA or EPA, or IRS or CIA or FBI agents. Congress passes the laws, the President signs them, and the bureaucrats enforce them. (On a side note, because many of our laws are so poorly written, the Supreme Court effectively decides the actual law.). This “passing the buck” gives the elected officials cover. Of course, both the Congress and the President could work together to eliminate this huge bureaucracy, but without pressure from US, they won’t. That’s been proven. What do we do? We bring it up to our officials every chance we get. We demand accountability. Until enough of US do this, things will not change, no matter whom we elect as President.

Pooh’s right on this one. Wilson started the massive bureaucratic state.

Do Americans Trust Authority? https://curtandtheotherguy.com/do-americans-trust-authority/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=do-americans-trust-authority https://curtandtheotherguy.com/do-americans-trust-authority/#respond Fri, 26 Nov 2021 11:58:55 +0000 https://curtandtheotherguy.com/?p=372 Continue reading Do Americans Trust Authority?]]> The Covid-19 virus has exposed very clearly one of our great national problems: Americans do not trust their institutions any longer. We don’t trust Congress; we don’t trust the bureaucracies; we don’t trust the educational system; we don’t trust the MSM; we don’t trust the Church; we don’t trust the economic system; we don’t trust the electoral system; we don’t trust the opposition political party—you get the point.
The question is why. Why don’t we trust these institutions? It’s really quite simple: These institutions have violated our trust too many times.
We’ve seen politicians lie time and again; we’ve watched bureaucrats change their stories, color their stories, and refuse to admit when they are wrong or just plain don’t know; we’ve seen teachers and administrators move from educating to indoctrinating; we’ve watched as the MSM has become unapologetically partisan and refuse to investigate and question “their team members”; we’ve seen Church and Religious leaders cover up for abuse and teach doctrines that are openly contradictory to their Sacred Books; we watch as the government issues tax breaks, bailouts, “loans,” and actual handouts to corporations and millionaires; we’ve watched as BOTH parties claim that the duly-elected President is “not my President”; and I don’t really need to describe slimy politicians.
Now all of this explains “vaccine hesitancy,” and trying to FORCE people to do something that they don’t trust just doesn’t make sense.
What is the answer? US—we are the answer. We have to do the right thing; we have to follow the golden rule; we have to hold our leaders accountable.
Feel free to comment. Have a great day!
